Problems installing hdfview 2.9

HDFView / Java HDF Object Package

Dear all,

I am trying to install hdfview 2.9 on my macbook pro (OS X 10.8.2, 64-bit). After downloading the 64-bit MAC intel version I want to install the software, but I get an error message saying 'the software is damaged and need to be moved to the trash'. Can anyone tell me what I need to do in order to install hdfview 2.9 properly?

It mentions there: "This issue is an Apple bug". What is the bug? Do you have a Radar number?

Hi Peter,

I have tried to workaround the problem by using your link but it still gives the same error ('the software is damaged').

Can you please let me know when the problem is solved? And what is the time interval I should think off?
Then I can take this into account for my work schedule the upcoming period.

Hi Maarten,

We don't know the root of the cause for the problem but we will let you
what what we find in the next a few days.

At the same time, you can install HDFView without the installer.
1) download the tar file from
     http://www.hdfgroup.org/ftp/HDF5/hdf-java/bin/solaris64/
2) untar and change the two following variables at hdf-java/bin/hdfview.sh, e.g.
     HDFJAVA=/Users/xcao/work/build/hdf-java
     JAVAHOME=/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Commands
3) run hdfview from hdfview.sh

Hi Maarten,

I just downloaded and installed hdfview for 64-bit mac. I did not experience any
problem. When I open the hdfview installer, mac gatekeeper will ask you if you
want to open the installer or not. I click "Open" and the rest was flawless.

I wonder if anyone else in the forum experienced the same problem. Just want to
figure out it this is an isolated case or not.

Hi all,

When you run the HDFView installer on Mac Mountain Lion, you may get an error
message saying "the software is damaged and need to be moved to the trash".
The error message is because of the OS X 10.8 GateKeeper that defaults to only
running apps that are code-signed. Please use the workaround if you encounter
such a problem:
before you run the HDFView installer, run the this command on the installer
"xattr -d com.apple.quarantine ~/Downloads/hdfview_install_macosx_intel64.app"

We are working on a long-term solution for the problem.
