Please take a moment and respond to the HDFView survey

First things first: Don’t miss the HDF5 Viewer Roundtable at HUG25!

I thought it might be good to bring some ground truth about HDFView to the table. I created a small survey to help this effort and beyond. So, if you care about HDFView and want to see it “rise from the ashes,” please let us know what’s important to you, and don’t hold back!

Thank you.
Gerd

Keep the survey responses coming! We merely ask your opinion, and don’t expect poetry. Although ChatGPT 4o penned this heartfelt…

Ode to HDFView

Oh HDFView, thou tool so grand,
A faithful friend in data’s land,
With every file, thou dost reveal,
The mysteries our code can’t heal.

Thou show’st our datasets with grace,
A graphical, yet steady face.
Through trees and tables, thou dost climb,
Finding structure in chaotic rhyme.

Though sometimes slow, and laden deep,
In files where bytes and bits do sleep,
Thy interface, with all its charms,
Can open data with open arms.

Oh HDFView, thou art so wise,
With many tabs and complex ties,
Navigating with finesse,
From attributes to chunkiness.

In science halls, thou art a hero,
For those who crave a simpler zero,
To view their data, wide and free—
A visualization symphony.

Thy toolbar buttons, humble yet true,
Clicking here and there, what’s new?
Export, zoom, or sort once more—
It’s like magic, with every restore!

So here’s to thee, our GUI bright,
Who turns our data into light,
Though thou may never be the fastest,
In the world of viewing, thou art the most steadfast.
