Performing tuning guides

Hi All,

Two quick questions.

First, how does one search email archive for emails on the subject of
'performance.' It took me many mouse clicks to get to the archive from
hdfgroup.org to begin with and some I just guessed at as there didn't
seem to be good choices. So, this is feedback to hdfgroup.org that maybe
you need to make it 'easier' to get to the forum's email archive. Next,
after finding the archive, I couldn't find a good way to search the
entire archive for emails on the subject of 'performance.' I wound up
clicking into each month's 'subject' line and then using my browser's
search feature to find messages with 'performance' in them. That doesn't
seem very useful. Is there a better way I am missing? If not, maybe that
is something else hdfgroup.org could do to make it easier to find
material. (So, I guess this wasn't such a 'quick' question).

Next, can anyone suggest resources on line for tuning hdf5 including
such things as metadata cache parameters, chunking parameters, etc?
Thanks.

Mark

We are aware of the issue and are looking into different possible solutions.

One thing we need to improve right away is to make a link to the hdf-forum mail archive
http://mail.hdfgroup.org/pipermail/hdf-forum_hdfgroup.org/ more visible (5 clicks to get to it from the main page is quite annoying

My personal solution is to use Apple mail to redirect hdf-forum messages into a special folder. Apple mail has a pretty good search engine, and emails with the same subject line are highlighted making it easy to read a thread.

Next, can anyone suggest resources on line for tuning hdf5 including
such things as metadata cache parameters, chunking parameters, etc?
Thanks.

For metadata cache see UG chapter http://www.hdfgroup.org/HDF5/doc/UG/UG_frame17SpecialTopics.html Feedback, questions, critique will be more than welcome.

Chunking writeup is coming. At this moment some useful material can be found in our Tutorials (see the latest http://www.hdfeos.net/workshops/ws13/agenda.php, Elena Pourmal Presentation1). Rob Matzke's writeup http://www.hdfgroup.org/HDF5/doc1.6/Chunking.html explains current chunk cache implementation and behavior.

Once again, suggestions and questions are more than welcome.

Thank you!

Elena
