NetCDF-4 <-> HDF5 : Multiple links to the same data object

Hello everybody,

I went through the NetCDF-4 library and I would like to kindly ask you if
it possible to create different variables which point to the same data
object. If not, does anybody know if there is any technical issue (within
the NetCDF-4 standard) by using the HDF5 library to create them?
Thank you!
Best Regards
Mattia

Mattia, how are you? I'm showing my ignorance here in NetCDF-4 matters, but

let me try to rephrase your question in HDF5 terms. Are you asking if an

HDF5 dataset (~ NetCDF variable) can be multiply linked from the same or
different

HDF5 groups? Yes, that's fairly simple. Just create another soft or hard
link

referencing that dataset. BTW, this works not only for datasets, but also
for

groups and committed datatypes. I do not know to what extent NetCDF-4
exposes

that functionality.

Best, G.
