nagg, viirs-RDR, hdf5, de-aggregating

Hello,

Can i use nagg for de-aggregating viirs-RDR (Raw Data Record) *.h5 file?

What utility can i use for this processing except nagg?

Hello zion0210,

As one of the nagg developers I can answer your first question. The nagg tool was developed for NPP SDR and EDR products, and will also process a number of IP products that have the same internal structure as the SDR and EDR products. Unfortunately while the internal group structure of the RDR products is similar, the RDR layout and the granule data structures are quite different from those of the SDR, EDR and IP products, and nagg is not at all capable of processing the RDRs.

I can't answer your second question, as I am not familiar with a tool that will de-aggregate granules in VIIRS-RDR*.h5 files. One fundamental difference from the SDR/EDR/IP files that nagg does process is that the VIIRS-RDR files contain related granules of different durations, whereas all granules in an SDR/EDR/IP file containing compatible products share a common, relatively precise duration. The JPSS Common Data Format Control Book - External (CDFCB-X) Volume II -RDR Formats states on page 1: "A science RDR data product generally contains all the necessary APs to construct a Science Data Record (SDR)." De-aggregating the granules in an RDR file seems theoretically possible, but would probably require much more complex processing than is required for nagg to de-aggregate the SDR/EDR/IP product files.

Perhaps someone else knows of such a tool. If not I will ask some of the nagg users whether any such tool is available.

Hello Larry,

Thanks you for this answer.

For achievement this goal, i installed ADL tools.
It have ADL_Packer.exe and ADL_Unpacker.exe for convert RDR and SDR files.

But ADL_Unpacker.exe run failed:
Segmentation fault (core dumped).
