Installation problem

I am trying to install the HDF5 libraries on Linux Mint 17 which is installed on VirtualBox 4.3.12 which is on Windows 7. I am using the instructions on http://www.hdfgroup.org/HDF5/release/cmakebuild.html#bldext (Build HDF5 with SZIP and ZLIB External Libraries from TGZ files). I am getting error messages at the end of the installation process and then all installed files are dumped.

There must be something that I've missed. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Jonathan,

   Looking at the log file, the configuration runs and generates the build files
into the build folder, yet when it tries to read those same files it has
problems. Is the folder a shared folder? Maybe there is a system response
issue? Can you do the build entirely within the VM file system?

There are limitations on the use of symbolic links for VB shared folders,
but the
cmake installation needs them:

$ ls -l hdf5-1.8/build/bin/libz.so
lrwxrwxrwx 1 gwhite bod 11 Jul 2 13:57 hdf5-1.8/build/bin/libz.so ->
libz.so.1.2
