Hi everyone,
We are writing to share an important update regarding our platform support and testing infrastructure roadmap.
After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue active testing support for big-endian architectures, effective immediately.
Maintaining support for big-endian systems requires specialized hardware and Continuous Integration runners that are not standard in most free or low-cost CI tiers. Without hardware to verify, we are coding blindly, hoping it works, but we cannot verify it.
What This Means
-
No Active CI: We will no longer run automated tests on big-endian targets.
-
PRs & Regressions: We cannot guarantee that new Pull Requests will not break functionality on these systems.
Call for Help: We Need You
We recognize the importance of broad platform support, but we need your help to achieve it. If your organization relies on Big Endian support, we encourage you to get involved.
We are seeking dedicated maintainers—volunteers with access to the necessary hardware who are willing to take responsibility for these build targets and address platform-specific bugs.
If you have the resources, hardware, or funding to support these architectures, please reply to this thread or reach out to us at help@hdfgroup.org.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
