How to read HDF4 file data into parameter values in HDFView

HDF Forum,

I am using HDF4 files downloaded from Oceancolor Data archive .> MODISA >
SST > 8D > Mapped > 4km data which opens in HDF View with l3m_data file.
These data files contain 5 digit 16 bit unsigned inetger values.
Can anybody advise on how to read these values to parameter values?
I am exporting them to txt file and then to excel file for converting them.

I am directly dividing these values by 1000 and resulted value is taken as
actual parameter value.

For eg. 65535 is called as fill value and 39123 is considered as SST
39.123 degree celsius

Am I right or please correct If I am wrong?
Your valuable suggestion is requested
Thanks and Regards
