The solution I've taken is a bit more complex. You can use the H5T.* functionality to map to .NET objects using the Reflection (System.Runtime.InteropServices). This mostly works, but there are issues, the functionality correlation is not 1:1... for example, the .NET types only define arrays by rank, not by size. And it's a non-trivial bit of code.
