HDF5 Tutorial at the LCI Conference

Hi,

Can anyone provide more details on the HDF5 Tutorial at the LCI Conference in March?
All I know so far is the title:
Modeling and Visualizing Big and Complex Data: A Tutorial on HDF5 and an Extended Example Based on F5.

Thanks,

~John

Hi Elena,

Thanks for the quick response. It looks like a great tutorial as is, but can you really fit all that in one day?
The last two sessions could easily take a whole day each and those are the ones I'm most interested in. F5 looks pretty interesting too. I need to spend some time this weekend to learn more about it.

I won't know until Monday if I can attend, but since Monday is the last day of registration for the conference, I'll need to know by then.

Thanks,
~John

Difficult. Not impossible

You are correct that we can spend more than one day on each of the four parts of the proposed Tutorial. It really depends on the audience, but based on our experience, attendees do get good start on HDF5 in one day.

Hi Elena,

It looks like I'm set to attend the HDF5 tutorial and the first day of the LCI conference. Does the tutorial include any hands on exercises requiring a laptop?

With regards to F5, it looks like it could be useful for the commercial CFD application I'm working on, but the license looks like it is available only for academic work. Is this correct?

Thanks,
~John

John,

I'm planning to incorporate some short interactive exercises in the serial portion of the HDF5 tutorial if enough of the audience have laptops, but it will (of course) be optional and I will run through it on the projector as well.

Thanks,

Hi John,

there is some flexibility about the F5 license; the current one under which it is freely available is for academic use, yes. If you're attending the tutorial, then we can discuss possible options in person.
