HDF5 sections - a cut above the competition - Gerd Heber on Call the Doctor 12/17/24

Sections, the profiles of something as it would appear if cut through by intersecting (hyper-)planes, are challenging to represent in HDF5. They represent an intriguing mix of sparsity and multiplicity, with sparsity being a special case. On Tuesday’s session of Call the Doctor, Gerd Heber will discuss a few use cases and argue that supporting sections as a primitive in the HDF5 data model would be welcomed by data modelers, and memory-efficient implementation of the corresponding search, update, and traversal functions would win the hearts and minds of not only lumberjacks but many other professionals.
