HDF5 libraries for VC6

Hi list,
I have to program using VC6 and HDF 5 libraries, where I can get either the compiled libraries or if I have to build from source, instructions.

Hi Prakash,

Visual Studio 6 is not supported in the latest version of HDF5. We recommend that Windows users update to Visual Studio .NET or 2005.

However, if you must use Visual Studio 6, you may use HDF5 1.6. You can find the source code here:
ftp://ftp.hdfgroup.org/HDF5/current16/src/

Instructions to compile are included in the "INSTALL_Windows.txt" document.

VS6 may not be supported, but i still got it compiled, linked and used
HDF5 for many months b4 recompiling to VS8 (VS2005).

i did follow the install_windows.txt document and also used the .dsp
files that appear in the distribution.

simply letting u know that it works in vs6 also.

Just would like to make users in this forum clear. VS6 is no longer supported for HDF5 1.8 or later release. You cannot find any dsp files from any HDF5 1.8 or later source releases. So you should not compile HDF5 1.8 or later with VS6.0.

However, we still support VS 6.0 (C only and Compaq fortran is not tested) for HDF5 1.6 and HDF4. However, we may also stop supporting them in the future.

With VS .Net 2003, VS2005 and VS 2008, we encourage users to move forward with new microsoft compilers.
