Error during make check [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]

Hi all,

I'm trying to compile hdf5-1.8.9 and it's failing during make check, in particular the testphdf5 tests.

Running on RHEL 5.9, configured with:

CC=/usr/lib64/openmpi/1.4-gcc/bin/mpicc ./configure --enable-parallel --prefix=/usr/local --with-zlib=/usr/local

I can run some simple mpio applications ok, but I'm unforunately not proficient in C or HDF to make sense of this stacktrace and where to look.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

$ ./testpar/testphdf5

Hi Andrew,

First of all, the latest HDF5 version 1.8.10 is released in Oct 2012. Though it is not
the reason of your problem below, I would suggest you to use the latest release.

According to the output you included below, you were running the parallel test program, testphdf5,
as a serial execution by hand. MPI executables are usually launched via some MPI launcher such as
"mpirun" or similar. In Linux platforms, you can start it via the "./a.out" method but you are not doing it
the MPI way. In your case, you got a single process running. The test, testphdf5, expects more MPI
processes. That is reason for all the messages.

Solution:
Try use "make check" to let HDF5 run all its tests.
If you want to focus on parallel tests, you can do "make check-p" which runs
only the parallel tests.

Extra note:
OTOH, even with 1 process, the testphdf5 should end with diagnosis messages, not
terminated like it did below. I will file bug reports to fix them.

Testing -- fapl_mpiposix duplicate (posixdup)
Testing -- dataset using split communicators (split)
Testing -- dataset independent write (idsetw)
Testing -- dataset independent read (idsetr)
Testing -- dataset collective write (cdsetw)
Testing -- dataset collective read (cdsetr)
...cut a lot of extra testing stuff here...
Testing -- collective irregular contiguous write (ccontw)
Testing -- collective irregular contiguous read (ccontr)
Testing -- collective irregular simple chunk write (cschunkw)
Testing -- collective irregular simple chunk read (cschunkr)
Testing -- collective irregular complex chunk write (ccchunkw)
Testing -- collective irregular complex chunk read (ccchunkr)
Testing -- null dataset test (null)
Testing -- I/O mode confusion test -- hangs quickly on failure (I/Omodeconf)
Testing -- round robin object header flush confusion test (rrobjflushconf)
rr_obj_hdr_flush_confusion needs at least 3 processes to run. Terminated.
