Compression of Compound datatypes?

From API Specification:

H5Pset_szip(*hid_t* plist, *unsigned int* options_mask, *unsigned int*
pixels_per_block)
SZIP can be used with atomic datatypes that may have size of 8, 16, 32, or
64 bits.

Does it mean that szip can't be used to compress compound datatypes?

Does Zlib compression support compression of compound datatypes than?

Apparently no.

Definitely yes.
