1.8.8 debian packages

Hello all,

Current debian packages for hdf5 are quite out of date and I needed to
install hdf5 library on several users' computer in order to test a
simulation software. And the installation had to be from binary package in
the conventional manner. So I went ahead and prepared debian packages for
1.8.8 in both amd64 and i386 architectures. These packages are available
for download at:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/dbh/files/hdf5/

Specifications:

   - debian package format i386/amd64
   - configured in serial mode
   - includes the C++ development
   - does not include Fortran development (if your program has F code, this
library is only good for runtime)
   - Configure scripts and makefiles were rebuilt on: Linux tauro
   3.0.6-gentoo #2 SMP Wed Oct 26 11:25:14 CDT 2011 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM)2
   Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
   - debian package build on debian 6 (squeeze) but they should be fine in
   Ubuntu.
   - publication date: 2012-02-03
   - distribution of this package by no way endorses or promotes HDF5
   - all other hdf5-group copyright specifications (listed at above
   mentioned download site) apply

enjoy!

Hello all,

Not sure what you are talking about but Debian contains hdf5 1.8.8 in
sid [1] and a transition is ongoing to have in wheezy [2].

If you need to have this package in Debian stable (squeeze), it is
always possible to backport it [3].

and I needed to

Instead of duplicating the work, why don't you help in the Debian
packaging ?
I would be happy to guide you.

Sylvestre
