Quickstart Guide: Welcome to the new HDF Forum

Welcome to The HDF Group's new HDF-Forum. We have decided to move our mailman mailing list and the archive to one location, this Discourse forum. Discourse is a well-proven and popular open source online forum tool. We're excited to streamline and simplify things for the HDF user community by creating this new forum. We hope this brief guide will help you get started quickly and answer any questions you may have.

Feel free to read and search the forum anonymously, but to post, you'll need to log in to the forum. If you've already created an account at www.hdfgroup.org, you can use that username and password to sign in using the Log In button in the upper left corner. If not, please register here. On a practical level, registration helps us manage the forum by reducing spam, but asking you to register also helps HDF technologies by allowing us to demonstrate how widely and where the software is used. You can read a little more about it in this blog post from our CEO.

After registering, when you come back to the forum (this site) you'll be asked to create a new forum profile. After you click the Create New Account button, you can post here on the web interface or send your post via email to hdf5@forum.hdfgroup.org. We’ve added everyone on the hdf-forum to the new forum with a preference of “mailing list mode” which means an email for every topic and comment. We are working on implementing a digest option and will let you know when it’s ready. If you’d like to turn off mailing list mode, after logging in, visit your email preferences and uncheck Mailing List mode.

If you never posted on the old hdf-forum mailing list, your first post will require approval by a moderator, but The HDF Group staff is monitoring all posts and will be able to quickly approve your post. Please feel free to reach out to info@hdfgroup.org if you have any questions or concerns.
