I don’t have personal experience with it, but we are actively working with GitHub - redclaw-quantum/clawhdf5: Mirror of gitea:quantumclaw/clawhdf5 · GitHub as part of a research project; it’s a pure Rust implementation. I would recommend experimenting with it to see if it meets your needs, as it is not as full-featured as the C library.
